In the absence of expressed contractual terms for the salvage, expenses incurred by a Salvor to exercise his lien for security from Cargo Owners are NOT RECOVERABLE from the Cargo Owners.
However, expenses incurred by Salvor to preserve the cargo at port of safety for the benefit of the cargo are RECOVERABLE from Cargo Owners.

Quickly demand delivery of cargo ASAP; to prevent facts of the case from turning against you. Does not hurt to establish early on in the incident that Salvors are exercising their possessory lien against you so that you can argue such storage expenses should not fall on you.
